'May 9 was an attempt to incite rebellion within armed forces in favour of PTI'
2024-05-13
[GEO.TV] The caretaker government's report on May 9 said that it was an organised and dangerous strategy not only to pressurise the Pakistain Army for a political deal to meet Imran Khan'>Imran Khan
...aka The Great Khan, who ain't the sharpest bulb on the national tree...
's demands but a brazen attempt to incite rebellion from within the armed forces in Pakistain Tehrik-e-Insaf
...a political party in Pakistan. PTI was founded by former Pakistani cricket captain and philanthropist Imran Khan. The party's slogan is Justice, Humanity and Self Esteem, each of which is open to widely divergent interpretations....
's (PTI) favour.

"The party had been emboldened by a lack of firm response to its earlier violence by state institutions. A frontal assault on military installations was to weaken the army’s morale and pressure it into political deal making. This was also a brazen and a mistaken attempt at inciting rebellion from within the armed forces in its favour," says the report.

It added, "The events of May 9, 2023 were neither isolated nor entirely spontaneous. They were part of an organised and dangerous strategy to pressure state institutions into acceding to Mr Khan’s demands."

The report said that the events of May 9 were the culmination of a narrative built around a personality cult, and a strategy that justified violence against his opponents as national service.

The caretaker government's cabinet committee, which probed the matter, noted with "profound pain" that a popular political party would elect to hurt national interest through such reckless plans.

The Constitution guarantees the right of political association to advance the interests of the people, not to harm state institutions and national interests.

According to the report, "[Imran] Khan had long seen the military establishment as, both, the entity responsible for his ouster from the government and the only institution he was open to negotiating with.

"He [Khan] had repeatedly voiced his contempt for other political parties and their leaders and his constant refusal to even sit in Parliament with them. He had also expressed a desire to engage with the military establishment to find political solutions.

"Khan refused to respect the constitutional role for the armed forces that require them to remain apolitical. He desired active engagement by the armed forces in politics in violation of their constitutional mandate. When the armed forces refused to be dragged into politics, Khan and his party sought to create an environment that would pressure them into engaging with him.

"This was augmented by a media strategy through local and external platforms. Khan at no point denounced or disowned the May 9 events, rather twisted its facts to widen the divide between the people and the armed forces, nor he has publicly acknowledged the consequences of this event on the national security of Pakistain.

on Thursday, Fazl said: "Workers have once again given the message that fake assembly is not acceptable."

The JUI-F leader, who believed that the 2024 general elections were more rigged than that of 2018, said "these governments are not the true representatives" of the people.

"We have brought the case of people's self-respect," he added.

It is pertinent to mention here that the JUI-F had also been calling the former PTI-led government "fake" before the two erstwhile political foes found an "ideological coordination" against the incumbent PML-N-led coalition government.

IHC orders transfer of Bushra Bibi from Bani Gala to Adiala jail
2024-05-10
[GEO.TV] The Islamabad High Court (IHC) announced on Wednesday ordered the transfer of former prime minister Imran Khan
...aka The Great Khan, who probably had the best of intentions, coupled with mediocre exeution...
’s spouse, Bushra Bibi, from the Bani Gala sub-jail to the Adiala jail.

IHC Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb announced the reserved verdict on the petition filed by Bushra Bibi seeking her transfer to the Adiala jail — where her husband is currently incarcerated.

On May 2, the high court had reserved the verdict after hearing the arguments. The superintendent jail had relayed that they could not accommodate Bushra Bibi as the jail was already overcrowded and due to security issues.

The court also declared that the notification declaring Bushra Bibi's residence Bani Gala as a sub-jail "null and void".

Bushra was placed under house arrest at her residence in Bani Gala on January 31, following her conviction in the infamous Toshakhana case. The authorities had declared the Bani Gala residence a "sub-jail" to confine the former first lady at the request of Adiala jail superintendent.

On February 6, Bushra had challenged the authorities' move to imprison her at Bani Gala to serve a 14-year sentence in the case.

In the petition, Khan's wife maintained that like other political workers of the party, she was ready and willing to serve her sentence in the "Ordinary Jail Premises at Adiala Jail, rather than the declared sub-jail at her residence".

's (PTI) political rights these days, distanced himself from the former ruling party in connection with the May 9 riots.

Speaking on the Geo News programme Capital Talk, the JUI-F chief said: "Our Million March and Awami Assembly have nothing to do with the May 9 incidents."

The May 9 violence were triggered almost across the country after the deposed prime minister Imran Khan's arrest in the £190 million settlement case last year. Hundreds of PTI workers and leaders were put behind bars for their alleged involvement in violence and attacks on military installations.

During the protests, the miscreants targeted the civil and military installations including — Jinnah House and the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi. The military termed May 9 "Black Day" and decided to try the protesters under the Army Act.

In his fresh interview with Hamid Mir, Maulana Fazl said that his party had also staged a protest against the May 9 violence and the entire nation had taken notice of the attacks on the state property.

It is pertinent to mention here that Fazl, in March this year, announced launching a movement called "Awami Assembly" against the results of the general elections which he believes were "rigged".

The JUI-F chief, while lambasting the "establishment" for "constantly interfering" in politics, had announced million marches against the alleged rigging in the February 8 general elections. He had made the announcement while delivering his maiden speech in the National Assembly last month.

Journalist, 2 others killed after vehicle hit with remote-controlled blast in Khuzdar
2024-05-04
[GEO.TV] Mohammad Siddiq Mengal, a journalist and president of the Khuzdar Press Club, was killed along with two others on Friday after a remote-controlled bomb targeted his vehicle in Khuzdar, police told Geo News.

At least eight people were also injured as a result of the deadly explosion.

Two injured individuals in the blast later gave up the ghost with the corpse count rising to three, said the station house officer.

The killed passers-by were seriously injured in the remote-controlled blast and were brought to the hospital, while the other eight injured in the blast are undergoing treatment in different hospitals, police said.

According to the police, the remote-controlled blast was carried out on the Sultan Ibrahim Khan Road on the National Highway.

The station house officer said that the journalist's vehicle was the target of the blast and was hit when he was going to university from his home.

This is not the first time Mengal has been targeted by attackers.
Sounds like it's the last one
Police said that the journalist — who was associated with a local newspaper — escaped an liquidation attempt a few months ago.

Home Minister Mir Ziaullah Langau strongly condemned the Khuzdar blast and directed the relevant authorities to present a report.

The attack on the journalists comes as the world honours the work of journalists around the world on Press Freedom Day today.

Earlier today, the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) on Friday said that journalism in Pakistain is "under threat" as the world commemorates Press Freedom Day.

On the day, the IFJ has also launched its 22nd annual South Asia Press Freedom Report, according to which, journalists have become "punching bags" in the fight between former prime minister Imran Khan'>Imran Khan
>...aka The Great Khan, who who convinced himself that playing cricket qualified him to lead a nuclear-armed nation with severe personality disorders...
and the establishment.

The report said that 60 journalists were issued legal notices while dozens were arrested and remain in jug.

It said that about eight journalists were charged with sedition, terrorism and incitement to violence.

alleged "manipulation of votes" and "sell" of all legislature "from the Sindh Assembly to the President’s House" took place in the 2024 nationwide polls.

Pointing towards alleged manipulation of poll results, he criticised: "Democracy has been eliminated from the country."

"Those people sitting at the helm have made Pakistain a slave of America," he said, adding, "Pakistain is self-sufficient of competent people and natural resources."

’s government in 2022, said that they were fighting for illusory sovereignty of the country.

He said a "drama" was staged in the name of general elections in the 2024.

Fazl said his political rivals thought that the JUI-F would not be able to protest against election rigging "but our movement is not only for one day or one month".

He also expressed concerns over the increase in terror incidents, saying that Pakistain can only prosper when rulers come to power through "people’s struggle".

blasted the government, outcomes of the 2024 nationwide elections, parliamentarians, bureaucracy, and the establishment on Monday.

"Neither bureaucracy nor establishment has a role in the creation of the country," Maulana Fazl said while delivering a speech on the assembly’s floor today, adding that Pakistain was created through a democratic struggle and sacrifices but it stood nowhere in terms of political and economic stability.

He criticised the ruling parties, saying: "Is this a parliament of representatives of the nation or a setup arranged by the establishment?"

"How our conscience is satisfied [after the general elections], as the losers are upset, and even the winners are not satisfied [with the poll results]."

The PTI politicians in the National Assembly thumped their desks in support of Maulana Fazl’s remarks.

He went on to say that democracy in the country was weakened after politicians "compromised" on their principles on every occasion and now, the parliament has lost its supremacy as they cannot even pass a law independently.

Fazl also said that back-to-back "full and partial" martial laws have also shaken the democratic foundations of the country by ousting elected governments.

He pointed out that the ruling Pakistain Moslem League-Nawaz (PML-N) was a witness to how a law related to an agreement between the federal government and seminaries had not been passed despite being tabled in the assembly with consensus.

The JUI-F supremo said that they raised objections on the 2018 general polls just like they opposed the 2024 nationwide elections, terming it similarly "fraudulent" as the politicians "sold out the democracy" due to the country coming to a "standstill".

Ex-PM Imran Khan's aide Shahzad Akbar sues Pakistani govt over acid attack in UK
2024-04-30
[GEO.TV] Shahzad Akbar, the former federal minister and ex-adviser to deposed prime minister Imran Khan
...aka The Great Khan, who who convinced himself that playing cricket qualified him to lead a nuclear-armed nation with severe personality disorders...
, is taking legal action against the government of Pakistain over an acid attack that left him "scarred for life".

Acid was thrown at his face when he opened his door to a caller at his home in England’s Royston town on November 26, 2023.

He believes only his glasses, and his slamming the door shut prevented him from being blinded.

On Monday afternoon, Akbar served a copy of his legal action to the Pakistain High Commission in London. This news hound has seen a copy of the legal claim of over 15 pages. It names several Pakistain government officials as responsible for the attack.

Akbar claimed in the letter the government of Pakistain was behind the attack, which happened in front of his young child, and has left him scarred and with psychological injuries.

Akbar sent the Pak government a letter outlining the claim that he intends to bring against it at the High Court in London.

Akbar, aged 46, was an adviser to Imran Khan until three months before the prime minister was ousted in April 2022.

A blurb issued by the law firm representing the former adviser said Akbar highlighted how the powerful elements interfered with his accountability and anti-corruption objectives when he was the federal minister.

"Realising that the issue was systematic and that he could not fix the rampant corruption in Pakistain, he resigned from Khan’s government in January 2022," it says.

It adds: "Shortly after Khan was ousted, Shahzad was placed on a no-fly list. His name was removed from the list after he was successful in a court challenge. On 17 April 2022, he fled to London via Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), to avoid being targeted by Pakistain and/or its agents.

"In December 2022, Shahzad settled in the UK and took on an in-house lawyer position with a UK company based in London. He claims that the government of Pakistain has continued to target him through acts of transnational repression."

The former minister claimed that in October 2023, he was informed by his acquaintances that the Pakistain High Commission in London was attempting to trace his home address.

In November 2023, Shahzad received a letter from the Pakistain High Commission demanding information about a confidential agreement involving the UK National Crime Agency.

The blurb says: "Two weeks later, on 26 November 2023, Shahzad suffered the acid attack. His wife and daughters were at home with him when the attacker struck. The assailant aimed acid from a bottle at Shahzad’s face, injuring his face, head and right arm. If it were not for his glasses, the acid would have also injured Shahzad’s eyes, likely causing permanent partial or complete blindness. Shahzad reacted quickly and slammed his front door. His skin began to melt, and he was in excruciating pain.

"Shahzad’s wife called 999 and the fire and rescue service hosed him down outside his home, in almost-freezing temperatures. Uncertain if the substance used was deadly, the emergency services took Shahzad to the Addenbrookes Hospital, in Cambridge. The attack has caused discolouration and/or hyperpigmentation of the areas of skin burned by the acid. Shahzad claims the attack was perpetrated and/or directed by Pakistain and/or its agents."

Akbar named Pakistain activists who were targeted abroad including Ahmad Waqas Goraya, Gul Bukhari, Fazal Khan and Arshad Sharif.

The Hertfordshire police had confirmed that Akbar had reported the acid assault on November 26 but the police have not charged anyone in the investigation.

PTI says US report on 'human rights violations' in Pakistan 'hangs our heads in shame'
2024-04-28
[GEO.TV] After the "2023 Country Report on Human Rights Practices" issued by the US State Department highlighted alleged violations of fundamental rights, Pakistain Tehrik-e-Insaf spokesperson Raoof Hasan backed the findings related to the country saying, "Our heads hang in shame" after reading the report.

Hasan, while addressing a press conference along with PTI Senator Walid Iqbal on Saturday, said that the US reports elaborated on alleged human rights’ violations committed during 2023, including political cases, detentions, and violation of sanctity of "chaddar and char dewari".

He went on to say that the US State Department’s report also discussed "extra-judicial killings, enforced disappearances, political prisoners, censorship, as well as use of force against journalists."

"The report also stated the environment of lawlessness in the country, besides other human rights violations which bowed our heads in shame," the spokesperson of the Imran Khan-founded party added.

Senator Iqbal, speaking at the same press conference, claimed: "50 to 60 pages of the report were only about human rights violations [in our country] which gave details about torture on individuals in custody and even their killings. The report also mentioned the situation after regime change. It specifically mentioned subjecting PTI workers to torture."
